Iran national football team manager Carlos Queiroz gave his estimations for Team Melli’s odds in matches with what he said is "a very tough group", as the squad held its first training session at the Lokomotive Bakovka Training Centre in the Moscow region ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

"We come here with full determination to try to move forward and the difference, as I said it before, between us and Morocco, Portugal and Spain, it is: we only have two results here, we only perform two results – we win or we learn," said Queiroz talking about the goals set by the Iranian national team for the upcoming tournament.

In answer to a question about his impressions of the training facilities and hospitality in Russia, he said that everything exceeded his expectations. "We have accommodation, the training pitch, everything is great for us. Brilliant," the coach added.

Iranian national team forward Reza Ghoochannejhad, who is featuring in the team’s opening game against Morocco at the World Cup, said it "is gonna be a tough job." Ghoochannejhad named the Moroccan team a "very strong team, one of the best in Africa."

Iran’s Team Melli was the first 2018 World Cup qualified team to arrive in Russia ahead of the tournament which kicks off next week. They are in group B with Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup takes place in Russia from June 14 to July 15, 2018.
