Is it real, or is it Battlefield? One country thinks this game hits too close to home. What's up guys, Andrea Rene here for Clevver Games. Popular first person shooter Battlefield 3 prides itself on the real life simulation scenarios depicted in the game, and the country of Iran is not happen about it.
.
The security and intelligence division of Iran's police said in statement that, "All computer stores are prohibited from selling this illegal game." The country has banned the game which depicts United States military troops launching an assault on the capital city of Tehran, including the historic Grand Bazaar.
.
Electronic Arts has no resellers in the Iran but pirated copies are widely available at multiple retailers. This is the first time an official ban on Battlefield has been reported with some store owners declining to stop in the first in anticipation of the ban. Iranian police have allegedly raided some shops and arrested owners for selling the game in secret according to a source from a Middle Eastern news outlet.
.
The Fars news agency said the game prompted an online protest by a group of Iranian youth to stop the sale of the game, stating, "We understand that the story of a videogame is hypothetical...we believe the game is purposely released at a time when the US is pushing the international community into fearing Iran."
.
Now that is an interesting twist, the youth are supporting the ban, but the country is not able to sell the game in the first place. So they are essentially banning an item that was already on the black market, hence, why it was on the black market. Anyone else think this is a little, redundant? If anything I'd guess this would now boost sales. What do you guys think? Is this ban silly? Are these youths overreacting? Let me know in a comment below.
